Our sole purpose is touch-typing instruction while incorporating ergonomically healthy techniques. Touch-typing is vital for efficient and effective keyboarding, and we want to make it quick and easy to learn and do.
This isn't a program to make you a better writer. Its purpose is to make you a better typist: to build muscle memory for key location; to train you in techniques to increase your speed; to help you improve your accuracy.
Our program is about quickly learning where the keys are and ergonomically efficient finger paths. Think of this as a typing boot camp. Make it part of your everyday life. Get it done and get on with your life.
This is stripped down learning without a lot of bells and whistles. Fancy? No. New? No. Entertaining? Sometimes. Even though most of our students (of all ages) say they have fun, it is work. Practice in and out of class is required.
Designed for Health, Ease, & Speed:
KEYTIME® takes advantage of all learning modalities—sight, sound and touch—providing options for every type of learner, regardless of ability. Unlike traditional methods of teaching touch-typing, our method and materials are language-based. We use a variety of techniques including unique ergonomic finger paths, color coding of finger patterns, visualization through modeling, mnemonic clues, and tactile keys which enables learning all of the letters on the keyboard in about an hour! Students average a 5 word per minute increase for every five hours of practice with our materials.
Multi-modal:
KEYTIME® takes advantage of all learning modalities—sight, sound and touch—resulting in fun learning for every type of learner, regardless of ability.
Language-based:
Instead of learning key location by rote memory, the KEYTIME® student learns key location in a logical way based on established memory patterns in our language.
Choice of Keyboard Layouts:
Qwerty, Dvorak, Single-Right Dvorak, and Single-Left Dvorak.
Ergonomic:
KEYTIME® is designed particularly focusing on the best ergonomic hand positioning, finger paths, and posture for less fatigue and better well-being. Better ergonomic positioning creates healthier muscle memory and aids in strengthening the body’s core and circulation through better posture. Establishing good habits now is an investment in future health.
Ergonomic Tips:
We teach ergonomic finger movements; this differs from other programs. The change in movement will reduce stress on the left wrist. We also stress ergonomic posture. Students will be taught proper sitting and hand positions which are critical for preventing injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome. We believe that ergonomics are a key element in keyboarding. Even before taking one of our courses, students can begin to utilize their “Best Ergonomic Position.” Sitting up nice and tall with the back slightly forward (not leaning back into the chair). Feet flat on floor or on a step stool, if needed. Keyboard positioned 1/2 inch from the edge of the desk. Sitting distance is 6-8 inches from the edge of the workspace. Cup hands on keyboard like birds perching. Do not flatten or drop hands. Keep each finger on a single key and anchored on the home row.
Charting Success!
Success has to be seen and felt. Why many other programs fail — students cannot see their progress fast enough, which translates to discouragement and leads to not practicing. In our system, students are actively involved in their own learning and celebrate success by charting their own progress. Students who complete a KEYTIME® course, and follow our methodology, report an increase of 5 to 20 words per minute by course end.
Continued Support: We support our students at each stage: before, during, and after our courses. Our goal is for every student to feel that they can type.
Bottom Line:
There are lots of programs out there. Each one undoubtedly works for some students. This one is time tested. Do the work and it will work for you, too.
Typing is to have the muscle memory of the key location without having to look at the keys or screen.
Beginners benefit from our training by learning key location by touch in about an hour; this is touch-typing. A beginner can be someone who never learned to type; someone who has never touched a keyboard; someone who looks when keyboarding; someone who took typing but did not keep it up; someone who has limitations in a limb or has lost a limb and needs to learn a new layout; someone who learned a different keyboard layout, including in a different language. Our primary focus for the beginner is to know key location without looking and utilizing muscle memory instead of sight. It is important for beginners to break bad habits and to use ergonomics in their keyboarding routine to help lessen fatigue and improve physical well-being. Our classes are designed for beginners to learn correctly and create new habits.
The KEYTIME® Method is a faster way to learn letter location. Most students (ages 10 and up) will begin typing words and sentences on the first day!
Saving time is vital. KEYTIME® is dedicated to helping students save time by learning to touch-type in a fast, fun and easy way! The skills learned on the first day, of any of our courses, would average about 6 weeks in a traditional typing program. Our classes are intentionally kept to a one-week period (or less) with most sessions being held on consecutive days. This allows for time on task, in a controlled setting, with few distractions and provides an environment for reinforcing the new skill in a manner that might not be available elsewhere. It allows students to practice and apply their new skill. Most of our students can walk out the first day, after a two-hour session, knowing how to touch-type. They are able to start applying their new skill immediately. Proficiency comes with practice and application.
The KEYTIME® Method is based on learning theory. We utilize techniques that help improve speed and accuracy. We also offer alternative Dvorak keyboard layouts for those wanting or needing options other than Qwerty.
Experienced typists, who have mastered touch-typing, benefit from our program by learning how to increase speed, finesse their skills for accuracy, and increase their word per minute. Students learn how to group letters using the English language to quicken typing speed and create a new faster flow. Our classes are ideal for eliminating bad habits and learning to incorporate ergonomics for healthier habits.
Qwerty, Dvorak, Single-Right Dvorak, and Single-Left Dvorak.
Standard Qwerty is regularly taught.
Dvorak, Single-Right Dvorak, and Single-Left Dvorak are taught as Private Instruction. Discounts may be available when added to an existing scheduled class.
